pregnant houses - condemned household placenta

Sprawling harsh /ambient weirdo-electronics from the collaborative duo of Victor Estrada (Little Red Houses) and Justin Marc Lloyd (Pregnant Spore). This new work "Condemned Household Placenta" consists of two massive twenty minute tracks focused on the theme of common household bacteria and fungus. Melodic organ phrases are buried beneath wailing feedback loops and circuit bent skree, all heavily mixed with bizarre snips of classical music and flailing static frequencies. Proof positive that "noise" can in fact convey real emotion and feeling. Lighten Up Sounds has subjected this excellent new work to our heavy-handed pure analog approach, and we are proud to offer this new full length album as an extremely limited edition 8-track cartridge. These have been real time duplicated to meticulously selected recycled 8-track tapes. Each cartridge has been painstakingly quality tested, bulk erased and real time duplicated using a high end recorder, resulting in these beautiful all analog contemporary noise artifacts. First three cartridges are Pink, Blue, and White, remaining ten cartridges are Black. All orders come with a free digital download code for all you non-luddites. Features original beautiful/repulsive full color collage artwork by M.H. made entirely from close up photographs of moldy yogurt, bananas and rotten meat. Spectral germ-sounds projected from the inner mind cloud.

sentira

this is a new project. it's a project that will probably go back and forth between structure/rhythm/melody and everything at the opposite end. it is a collaborative duo between my friend jess and i. i'm using guitar through a slew of effects, and some sampling of field recordings. similar to the works i do under the 'dementia and hope trails' moniker. jes has a mostly tape-based setup with some other noisy devices and stuff, similar to her 'sacajaweeda' moniker. however, we aren't looking to combine our projects for the sake of collaborating. i think our goal is to stay true to psychedelic and trance-like atmospheres while introducing atonal textures and movements without letting the contrast sound nonsensical. to us, anyway. who knows where this will lead, if anywhere at all.

thanks for listening.

inappropriate king live/scant split review

Inappropriate King Live / Scant – Split C50

Rainbow Bridge Recordings

Inappropriate King Live is yet another project of the ever present Justin Marc Lloyd. The sounds here are weirder than his usual fare and I daresay some of his best work to date. Scant is the HNW project of Matt Boettke of Sex Complex. Together, I would say the combination of artists on this split is a jarring and unusual one, but overall the material is solid.

The Inappropriate King Live side is a dense, swirling work of altered field recordings mashed up into bizarre sound collage. The sounds here are broken and distorted; strange loops take the forefront to create weird, Kafka-esque atmospheres. Slowed down vocal samples seep out of the peculiar blend of squeaking, squawking textures and found sound weirdness. Brighter tones back the cut up sounds while bass-y sections prevent the piece from getting redundant. The sections are long and played out and nearly psychedelic in their own entrancing way. Atmospheric change makes for an experience that creates aural environments just beyond the threshold of recognizing the sound source. Highly experimental and variable is, overall, what Inappropriate King Live brings to the table.

The Scant side provides pretty typical fare in the harsh noise wall genre. I can’t say that this side did much for me; the movement in sound here is close to nil, though I did appreciate the deep ambient sections backing the wall.

I can’t say the pairing of artists here was particularly effective, but this tape is worth getting at least for the Inappropriate King Live side. The sounds are weird and fresh and worth hearing.

peer group - manscaping review

What it’s not: music, fun. What it IS is is…. layers of feedback and noise to tickle and delight your inner ear demon. Twenty one minutes of what in the holy crap is that supposed to be? Feedback, effects. That type of thing. There are different elements, it’s not just one continuous drone. It’s like, let’s layer the biggest pile we can possibly do, all at once, till it kind of peters out toward the end. Why not. It’s not bad but it’s also not very enjoyable to listen to. If given the choice between Peer Group and Lynyrd Skynyrd, I would still choose Peer Group. I hope that never happens.

pregnant spore - the self - review

Pregnant Spore brings a well crafted offering of noise cutlets to the table. 24 servings of cold noise. Harsh by all means, bass destruction and hi pitch shrieks are definitely there, but still containing the right measurement of sonic ambience and vocal melancholy to keep it from becoming stale. All the material was recorded live in one take, live composition. It came out beautifully. At times the pitches become too high to be enjoyed (though the enjoyment is a matter of taste), but infrequent enough to keep me from changing to something else. Suggested for fans of analog noise. I am reminded of Merzbow at times while listening to this release. I think thats a good thing. Limited to 40 CDr copies from Rainbow Bridge Records, now for free download! Check it out!

pregnant spore - the self cdr - sold out/free download

Pregnant Spore - The Self CDr - RB-116

These 24 tracks, some as short as 39 seconds and others nearly 10 minutes long, document a span of 8 months of self-realization and self-actualization. This is quite different from the Growth double CDr put out not too long ago although the strong spiritual elements remain intact. The sonic diversity on this release and its jumping from one idea and mood to the next, track-to-track, archives experiences, thoughts and emotions like files organized into different drawers of the brain. Eerie vocal pleadings, a hand-full of rhythmic cacophonies, sludge-ridden bass, reflective walls of sound, and disfiguring sorcery. No, your speakers aren't cutting out. Your CD player isn't skipping. There are not otherworldly beings trying to catch your attention by interfering with the frequency at which your mobile device sitting by your speakers is operating on. These are mangled vibrations and abstracted energy recorded onto a digital format for you to interpret as you may. Each piece has it's unique direction, and as a whole, this release is like a novel, representing every facet experienced internally in an 8-month excursion through existence.

pregnant spore/scoam review

So this is pretty fucking killer. I am a little unclear if this is a collaboration of a proper split but I believe it's a collaboration all the way through. I had not heard S.C.O.A.M. (Student Considers Other Academic Models) before this but I am impressed. First of all the tracks are relatively short, around 3-5 minutes, I think and the sounds on this are fantastic. Squelching synths juxtaposed with harsh noise and contact mic fury. It's a fucking mess and it's fantastic. The design and packaging is pretty interesting. A fold over J card that folds over the long way and an obi strip. I kinda wish this also came in a bag though (u-line makes those rad anti-static bags that would fit this perfect). It feels a little naked and flimsy just sitting the way it does. I think I have some bags around here that will work…  Either way it's, as I said before, pretty fucking killer. Limited to 50 copies.

Pregnant Spore performance, Providence at AS220.
Within a two week bus tour of the north east, I got to see Justin Lloyd aka Pregnant Spore perform each night , and each night was a seemingly chaotic association of sounds. Having heard maybe too much "harsh noise" over the years, both intensely composed freeform excellent terrible hilarious stellar epic and meandering, well I have specific critiques of this genre....Justin managed to pull the rabbit out of the hat on a number of nights and really access a meaningful or.....communicative level of noise. This night is particular was powerful to watch with sounds pulling or creating whatever may lie in the dark spaces of the aether there at the moment, well there was a few things its connected.
